Formation en anglais offerte par Steve Leckman de Programmes Coyote

Winter Survival - taught in English. Translations available if needed.

Classes with Les Primitifs are usually in French. We are trying to make this class accessible to the anglophone community. We will lead in english, and our bilingual instructors are happy to translate to french when needed.

Winter survival can be intimidating, but it is a great season to connect with the raw reality and beauty of nature. This course is an adventure in itself. Give yourself the opportunity to experience winter in its purest form!

It is also an opportunity to connect closely with yourself, your loved ones, nature and your ancestors. For this class we will continually alternate between modern and primitive techniques to give you the most information and practice.

We will see:

  • Shelter: several types of shelters for solo or group survival. Experience sleeping without a sleeping bag in your shelter;

  • Logistics: a host of tips and shared experiences that will allow you to do more than just survive: you will live the full potential of nature;

  • Water: water management, without a modern purifier;

  • Fire: we will explore and practice different methods and techniques with and without matches. The knowledge of fire through friction is gained through experience and coaching;

  • Food: trees, plants, meats, an introduction to the world of the hunter-gatherer;

  • Traps: several types of primitive traps will be taught;

  • Wisdom: our teaching is always accompanied by good stories, reflections and moments to connect deeply with nature;

  • And much more!

You will need:

  • Full winter outfit with toque, mittens and gloves. Also, if possible, have spare woolen mittens;

  • Wool socks (4 pairs), winter boots (not hiking boots);

  • Wool or fleece underwear set, with several layers. Avoid cotton at all costs!;

  • Your personal kitchen kit: bowl, dish, utensils, cup, etc.;

  • Your food: Keep it simple and keep it to a maximum of calories (fat and protein). It will be possible to cook simple foods on the fire and have access to drinking water for your dishes/soups. For snacks: jerky, nuts, energy bar, etc.;

  • Hygiene necessities. No shower available;

  • A NON-FOLDING knife with a 3 to 5 inch blade. Your knife must be carried in a sheath and you should not pay more than $40 for it. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us about this;

  • Notebook, pencils (pens freeze) and camera (no film).

For those who don't want to sleep in their shelter, it is possible to sleep in your tent or leave to sleep in the warmth at night.

If you have difficulties acquiring a piece of equipment contact us by email. We can help you find a solution.

Arrive dressed warmly and with a change of clothes. Some of the workshops may be dirty. The course will be held rain or shine. Dress warmer than you think is necessary! Plan for the weather...
